Accessorizing Can Make All The Difference
Since posting this picture on my IG account, I've had so many people asking me about this dress. This is actually a GUESS dress I bought a couple of years ago but what I wanted to point out is the belt! I bought this belt for just $3 from a thrift shop and I think it takes the dress from just OK to super cute!
Here are a couple of pictures without the belt to show you the difference. A belt is a great tool to add shape to your outfit. If you have any shift dresses at home, try adding a belt to give a more flattering silhouette and to instantly step up your look!
Room Fit For A Little King
I had the pleasure of surprising my bestie with a nursery makeover! I started the room design with choosing a wallpaper and then built from there. This wallpaper is from spoonflower.com - I highly recommend this company for quality, pricing, selection, and timely delivery. From there, I chose my color palette to compliment the rest of her home decor. She loves black and white and has a modern contemporary style house so it was important this room flowed! I chose gold accents with the tiniest bit of color in the bird house and wooden train. I painted the bottom of the vase white and tied some jute rope around it to give it more interest. The 1,2,3,4,5,6 wooden blocks used to be the traditional color blocks, so I painted the faces black and white. The cute elephant mobile was locally made here in Saskatoon. I bought the little terra cotta pots at the dollar store and planted 3 cute succulents in them to add a little bit of life to the room. All of the items on the shelves are a combination of items I repurposed, found at vintage shops, garage sales, and a few of my fav decor shops! Hope my sweet nephew enjoys his new room <3
I am in love with this front veranda - I hope you can find inspiration in it's gorgeous decor. It is the perfect blend of contemporary and rustic. I love the blend of whites and natural woods. The oversized rocking chairs are a perfect touch. This same look could be achieved on a deck that isn't covered. Don't be afraid to bring your living space outdoors! Decorate as if it was a room inside your house - the more personal touches, the better! Have a dinner party coming up? Bring an area rug outside to place under your outdoor table and hang some lanterns to change the ambience. The cozier the better!
Old Is New Again
Have an old piece of furniture but don't know what to do with it? Use chalk paint - it covers just about any surface! You can find it at most home improvement stores or order it online. This is a very old piano that had a traditional wood finish. Since it didn't go with the house, we refinished it in a gorgeous blue/grey color. Easy peasy!
Spring has finally sprung! I love a good pair of white jeans any time of year, but especially in springtime. People are always saying to me how much they love white denim but don't know how to wear them. As always, I don't feel like there are any major rules to wearing them but here are a few tips of how to style your whites! I'm wearing the same jeans with the same heels in all photos so you can see how to build these different looks by simply changing the top and adding a handbag.
Pair Your Whites With A Bright T-shirt
I love bright colors in spring. Here I paired my jeans with a rich blue t-shirt and black handbag with gold detailing. These jeans are cut-offs but you could always cuff the bottom of yours to show a little ankle.
A Little Animal Never Hurt
Here I've taken a simple black and white outfit and added a statement animal print cardigan. The knitted fringe handbag adds just a little bit of interest without being overbearing.
Fun Handbags Add A Pop Of Color
I'm a sucker for a colorful boho bag. I am wearing a long sleeve dress over my jeans - just be careful of the length of your dress if you are trying this look. You don't want the dress coming below the knee or it will look frumpy. The handbag adds a nice pop of color and I am wearing a nude headband for a simple accessory.
Have a family photo shoot coming up and don't know what to wear? Here are some tips for styling your fam like a pro. Make your photos have a timeless feel that you won't be embarrassed to have hanging on your wall a few years from now!
Have some fun with your children's outfits! Don't be afraid to mix in a little color and some fun patterns. I've coordinated the outfits ever so slightly with the stripes on the little girl's top and the boy's shoes. Gone are the days of everyone wearing fully matching outfits.
Since your kiddos are wearing the fun stuff, I think it looks much better to have the parents in more subdued colors. Here I've chosen blacks, whites, and greys. This way the children stand out in their cute little duds and mom & dad are looking stylish yet timeless. This is definitely more of a casual look as well. I think family photos look much better when everyone is comfortable and relaxed rather than in stuffy "dress clothes".
Depending on where you live, you may or may not be having some serious Spring Fever! I can't wait for the rest of this snow to melt and finally start enjoying some greener days. This is a great transition outfit for the season. I put a metallic silver t-shirt with white jeans, strappy heels, and an animal print cardigan. Accessorize this look with a tassel necklace and a cute little clutch!
An easy way to change up the feel of a room is to change the throw pillows. You can store seasonal pillows away and pull them out for special occasions and holidays. Don't be afraid to mix and match patterns, colors, and textures to add some depth to your room.
Sheep Skin Rugs
I feel like you can put a sheep skin rug just about anywhere and instantly create a cozy ambience in a room. Drape them over a chair as seen here, over a piano bench, ottoman, or even on the floor in front of a fireplace - get creative!
There is just something comforting to me about a wicker basket! Fill an oversized basket with your favorite furry blankets and throw pillows to create a super cute decor piece in a room. This not only looks cozy but is also a functional way to store your fav movie watching duds!
Create Warmth In Small Spaces
Plants just have a way of making a space come alive! Place a plant in the small nooks and crannies of your home to create some cozy corners. I like to pair them with other decor "trinkets" or as shown here with a candle and wooden mirror.
This Fiddle Leaf Tree is the perfect addition to any room with a lot of natural light. I love the way the sun hits the leaves and casts a warm glow into the room. Placing any large tree or plant near a window helps create those tropical vibes all year long.
Refresh Any Space With Some Greenery
Plants can refresh just about any space in your home. Put them on a shelf, mantle, piano, or even a bar as you see here to add some greenery into your home.
Choose A Piece Of Furniture To Re-Cover
I love a bargain! I found this leather foot stool at Value Village for only $6! I am slowly working on making my 1 1/2 year old daughter a "big girl" room so I chose this little stool to re-cover to put in her new room.
Tools You Will Need
Here are the tools you will need:
- Upholstery Pins
- Staple Gun
Trim The Fabric
Lay your fabric out on a large surface area (colored side down). Place the piece of furniture in the middle of the fabric making sure to leave a few inches around the perimeter of the item. Trim fabric with scissors all the way around.
Secure Fabric To Furniture
Pull the fabric as tight as you can, making sure there are no wrinkles and secure in place with your staple gun.
Use your hammer to gently nail the upholstery pins in place. Try not to hit them too hard because they bend easily. I like to use these on the folded edges of fabric that are showing on the outside of the furniture - gives the finished product a more polished look!
Here is the end product! From a frumpy old leather stool to a fun, brightly colored piece of furniture for my little girl!
